Jurn — Trip Journal · Last updated: February 19, 2026
Jurn is a local-first trip journal. Your data stays on your device. We do not collect, transmit, or store your personal information on any server.
Jurn records your GPS location while you are actively recording a trip day. This includes foreground and background location tracking. Location data is stored entirely on your device in a local database. GPS coordinates are never sent to our servers (we have none).
When you enter a city name for weather lookups, Jurn sends that city name to third-party geocoding services (see Third-Party Services below) to resolve coordinates. When reverse-geocoding your GPS position to a city name, your coordinates are sent to these same services.
Jurn reads photos and videos from your device's camera roll to import them into your trip journal. It reads EXIF metadata (including GPS coordinates and timestamps) to place photos on your route. Jurn does not modify or delete your camera roll photos. Imported references are stored locally on your device.
Jurn uses the microphone to record voice notes that you attach to trip moments. Voice note audio files are stored locally on your device.
All trip data — GPS tracks, photos, moments, expenses, voice notes, and preferences — is stored in a local SQLite database on your device. There is no cloud sync, no user accounts, and no remote backup.
If you delete the app, all data is permanently removed from your device.
Jurn contacts the following free, public APIs for optional features:
| Service | Data Sent | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Open-Meteo | City names, GPS coordinates | Weather forecasts and geocoding |
| OpenStreetMap Nominatim | GPS coordinates, place names | Reverse geocoding (coordinates to city names) |
These services are called only when needed (e.g., loading weather for a trip day). No personal identifiers, device IDs, or account information are sent. All API calls are optional — the app works fully offline without them.
Jurn uses OpenFreeMap to display map tiles. Map tile requests contain your approximate viewport coordinates but no personal identifiers.
Jurn does not include any analytics, crash reporting services, advertising SDKs, or tracking of any kind. We do not collect usage data, device identifiers, or behavioral information.
We do not share, sell, or transfer your data to any third party. Your trip data exists only on your device.
When you use the Share feature (share a day story, trip story, or itinerary), you are choosing to share that content through your device's native share sheet. Jurn does not control where you send it.
Jurn does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The app does not require an account or collect personal information.
If we update this privacy policy, we will post the revised version here with an updated date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
